Janine Samaniego
Janine Samaniego is a student, performer, and teacher of music. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Major in Violin Performance at the University of the Philippines (UP). She is currently the concertmaster of the UP Symphony Orchestra (UPSO), and has experienced playing with various orchestras in the country. She is also part of a band (spacedog spacecat; Tuwina) and loves playing for our local Filipino artists.
She teaches at Greenhills Music Studio (GMS), and also has her own private studio. Years after being taught the Suzuki method at St. Paul College, Pasig and GMS, Janine earned her Suzuki Method Teacher Training under Prof. Hwang Kyung-Ik, Dr. Lan Ku Chen, Mark Mutter, Martin Rüttimann, and Christophe Bossuat. She has attended various Suzuki Conferences across Asia. Currently, she is under the tutelage of Prof. Noel Martin.
Her music background, including her stint at the UP Arco String Orchestra, has brought her to different parts of the world, such as France, Switzerland, and Hungary (for a performance tour), Slovakia (where she was the concertmaster for the group at the Bratislava International Youth Music Festival and Competition in 2015, where they won the Silver Band for String Orchestra), and Italy (at the Musica Festa Florence in 2016, where the group bagged the Gold Medal and Special Jury Award for String Orchestra, and where she was named Best Female Soloist). Most recently, she was the violin deputy in the international tour of the musicals Miss Saigon (2024) and Hamilton (2023) in Manila.
