Emlyn Ponce
Emlyn S. Ponce is a violist of UP Symphony Orchestra since it was established in 2018. Starting at age 12, she informally started learning the viola and joined a community orchestra in Malabon City, the Musikito String Orchestra. She received her Bachelor of Music, major in viola, from UP College of music under the tutelage of Professor Edna Marcil Martinez.
As an orchestra musician, she participated in various performances and recitals inside and outside of the university. In 2010, along with the Musikito String Orchestra, they participated in the 4th Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna, Austria. In 2011 and 2014, she performed in the first and second National Orchestra Festival, which was held in CCP, as a violist of the UP Orchestra and from 2010 – 2018, with the UP Arco, where they participated in festivals in France and Hungary and competed in Slovakia and Italy. She also participated in 2017-2018 in Toyota Youth Orchestra Camp in Gifu, Japan, and got invited to be a panelist at World Amateur Orchestra Forum in Shizuoka on 2022 as a TYOC alumna.
Her interest in the Suzuki method started when she joined the 2013 National Suzuki Camp as a teacher/observer, and after participating in Christophe Bossuat’s workshop in 2018, she finally started her Suzuki Violin Book 1 teacher training under Dr. Lan Ku Chen and Mrs. Hoei Tsu Chen, and received her Suzuki Book 1 Teaching Certificate on April 2022 and finished her Book 4 teacher training. She currently teaches at Music Specialist Center and Greenhills Music Studio, aiming to help students develop to become musicians who can enjoy orchestra music.
