Alfonso Encina Jr.
Alfie hails from the town of Palo, Leyte. He started formal lessons in violin at the age of ten under Mr. Ernesto Isagan. In 2004 he joined as a trainee in the Palo Cathedral Orchestra and pioneered as one of the string players. He earned a scholarship to the 2005 Summer Music Program of the Philippine Research for the Developing Instrumental Soloists (PREDIS). He participated in the 3rd Asia Suzuki Conference held at Manila in 2007 and in the 15th Suzuki World Convention in Melbourne Australia in 2009. In 2015, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Music major in Music Education with Violin Principal at St. Scholastica’s College under Prof. Jeffrey Solares. Shortly after, he took violin lessons under Prof. Denise Santos-Huang. He participated in master classes with Mr. Diomedes Saraza Jr. and Dr. Shi Hwa Wang. He is currently taking his graduate studies in Violin Pedagogy with Prof. Noel Martin & Prof. Diomedes Saraza Jr.
He joined the Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) in 2010 and has performed with various local and international concert artists and conductors throughout. He has also performed with other music ensembles in Metro Manila. He is a licensed professional teacher and has taught violin classes in schools around Metro Manila. In 2014, he joined the PREDIS and the MSO Music Academy as one of the violin instructors. He has attended Suzuki Teacher Training Workshops under Prof. Huang Kyung-Ik, Dr. Lan Ku Chen, Mr. Mark Mutter, and Mr. Christophe Bossuat. He also participated in Suzuki Workshops held in Manila and South Korea. Currently, he is the artistic consultant of the Palo Ambassadors Orchestra and the violin instructor of CIE British School Tacloban.
