Abelardo Galang II
Filipino Pianist Galang started his musical education with his mother, Carmen and later entered the University of the Philippines College of Music where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance.
Winning the Grand Prix in the 1992 Philippine Piano Competition, Galang was awarded the Japan Solidarity Committee for Asian Alumni (JASCAA) scholarship and obtained a Masters Degree at the Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo. In 1996 he obtained his second Masters Degree from the Hochschule fuer Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, Germany. A scholar of the Alfonso T. Yuchengco Foundation, Galang finished his Doctorate Degree in Music (with honours) at the Technische Universität Berlin.
His discography under German label Tobios Records include “Schumann and Chopin” (2004), “Kundiman” (Philippine Art Songs) with acclaimed Filipino Bass-baritone Jonathan de la Paz Zaens (2008), and a 3-CD album of Italian-German Baroque composer Giovanni Benedetto Platti containing 12 Keyboard Sonatas (2010). In 2016, along with other outstanding Filipino pianists, Galang recorded piano solo works of Filipino Composers Lucrecia Kasilag and Eliseo Pajaro for a CD album produced in the Philippines. Galang is the pianist of Manila Piano Trio, a piano-violin-cello ensemble based in the Philippines.
Galang has performed in various countries in Asia, Europe, Middle East, and South Africa as soloist, chamber artist and Lied piano collaborator.
